Required Team Gear

1) A team first aid kit suitable for all activities. 
2) 1 Small shovel (a broad scoop or wide blade, no spoons)
3) Two compasses, each carried by separate individuals 
4) 5' of standard useable duct tape 
5) One waterproof map case (Ziploc's ok, maps are not waterproof)
6) One bike pump or inflation kit - Bike Discipline
7) Bike tools - Bike Discipline
8) Tire repair kit  - Bike Discipline 
9) At least two pencils or pens
10) Water 100oz minimum

* Racers may carry a cell phone, though they may not use it.  It is for Emergency purposes only and must be kept in the “Off” position for the duration of the race.  Penalties will result if anyone is caught using a phone.

 

  Lake Mead Harbor
Former location of the old Lake Mead Marina

Heat Wave #2 is located at Old Lake Mead Harbor at Lake Mead Nevada. A 20 min drive from Las Vegas, 5 minutes from Boulder city. There is a $5 fee to enter the park unless you have a year round pass.

-Check in Wednesday, Thursday, Friday.

There will be a check in at the race site Saturday from 12-3 pm
Athletes checking in the day of the race MAY not recieve a swag bag or T-shirt.
-Pre-Race Meeting 3 pm
-Race Begins at 4 pm (Rain or Shine)
-4 to 8 hour estimated race completion time

-(Race start - 4:00 pm, Dusk is 6:40 pm)
-FREE Massages available - Beverly Grant will be giving FREE massages before and after the race, Tips are appreciated.


*Canoes / Paddles / PFD's provided with entry fee.
1 canoe per team. These are fast for a canoe and fit 3 people.



** You may bring your own boat or upgrade to a kayak for an extra fee.
$35 per kayak, for a 1 or 2 man rental.
You must inform us by e-mail 1 week ahead of time or you will be required to use the standard race canoe.


***Sails and Kites ARE allowed.
***Mt. Bike Rentals are available but in limited supply.

**Awards ceremony will occur after the top 4 overall teams finish. Division medallists will be given at the finish line upon the teams completion of the race. All racers will receive a race T-shirt, a swag bag and a race completion certificate. A post race BBQ will be provided for all racers and spectators.

Required Personal Gear
(Every person must have & carry their own at all times)  This is a fully self supported race where you supply your own food, water, and all other gear.  All of this gear is inexpensive yet necessary and can be purchased at Wal-Mart, K-Mart, Target, or any sporting goods store.

If you want High Quality Gear that will last please go to Road ID for these products:

-Suitable clothes & shoes for all venues.
-Hydration pack or bottles with total capacity of at least 100 ounces to be carried at all times.

-1 headlamp
-1 small flashlight
-1 Survival flare
-1 Glow stick on your body
- Reflective tape on your body, bike and boat.
-2 Glow Sticks for your boat
-1 small air horn for the boat section
-Survival mirror
-Small personal first aid kit.
-Race bib number to be worn at all times (provided at check-in).
-Mountain bike & helmet.
-1 bike headlight
-1 flashing light on your bike
-1 spare inner tube (you might want more).
**Anything else that will make you more visible at night such as bright clothing etc...
